Boy Bands Rule the World

Boy Bands Rule the World

Oh my god Harry Styles looks so cute in Story of My Life music video, V is too handsome to be a living person, and I still feel sad whenever I hear Zayn’s solo songs. My whole teenage years is fulfilled with fangirling (how fan girls express their emotion towards their favored boy bands through their behavior) over these two boy bands, which are One Direction and BTS. Well, I think all teenage girls of Generation Z around the world also adore those two boy bands. While we are on the topic of generation Z, let’s examine a number of boy bands from different generations. But before we get deeper to the topic, we have to know what is the definition of boy band first.

Boy band is a band whose members are all male and designed to get the attention of teenage audience. Thus, it’s not shocking that all of the boy band’s fans come from young people of their generations, which is most likely to be teenage girls. For instance, the biggest boy band in history, The Beatles, has thousands and millions of fans who are mainly teenage girls screaming their names wherever they go. Not only did they scream the favoured members’ names, they also sang some of The Beatles’ songs when they were waiting for the boy band to come out and see them. Those teenage girls made The Beatles whoever they are know. Although not all of them are still alive today, their support and love for The Beatles still alive until today.

To get the idea of boy bands from several generation, i give you another example which comes from millennial (people who were born between 1981 and 1996), their adolescent years were accompanied by Backstreet Boys, NSYNC, and Westlife. You can ask your mom which boy band she adored when she was your age. I bet, our moms also did the same things like today’s teenage girls do which are listening to the boy band’s songs everyday and going to every concerts.

However, If you are or were on of those teenage girls, you must know that listening to their music and going to their concert are not enough. Buying albums, merchandises, and endorsed products are also a must-to-do thing for fans. Teenage girls believe by buying all those stuffs which are related to the boy bands are a way to show their support and love. It does not stop there. Like any other girls, I, used to, hang some of my favourite members’ pictures on my bed room wall. It is believed by doing so, the posters and pictures can lighten the mood of their fans. In other words, whenever they feel sad, they will stop what they are doing then look to the posters and smile again. This teenage girls phenomenon has been going on for decades no matter who is the boy band. Despite the phenomenon caused by boy bands, have you ever wondered how boy bands survive from time to time and why boy bands are famous among teenage girls from whichever generation.

To answer that question, I will use my own experience as a fan of boy bands. Thus, I have concluded three primary reasons why teenage girls always have soft spot for boy bands, which are appearance, the number of members, and relatable songs. The first thing we need to discuss is the first things that we see in people, such as face, hair, and body. Before we discuss about appearance further, let’s see some pictures of several boy bands that captured millions of teenage girls in the world. They are really good looking, cute, as well as hot right? Indeed, handsomeness or cuteness do not belong to one race or color or even certain age only. We can clearly see from the pictures, the varied races, colors, and ages. You must be wondering why not a single member of a boy band is not good looking. In order to answer that, we need to go back to the definition of a boy band. The purpose of making a boy band is to capture teenage girls’ hearts. Therefore, an agency or company choose their soon-to-be members of a boy band based on girl’s taste in a guy. Members should be tall, slim, attractive, cute, hot, and so on.

After appearance, the number of members is what most fan girls look in for a boy band. It cannot be too many nor too few. The number has to be perfect so that the fans are not overwhelmed by the number of members or not disappointed by the small number of members. Yes I get it, you are little confused. But, if you are a part of a fandom or you like boy bands, you will get what I’m saying.

To some people, several or many members are not necessary that’s why they prefer solo artists. However, to boy bands’ admirer, numbers are really important. That’s because the boy band offers boys with different personalities and characters for the fans to choose the one that suits their typical kind of guy or their dream guy. In my case, I like to change my favorite members each week in order to keep it fair.

Last but not least, boy bands take over girls’ hearts by creating songs that are relatable to their fans’ life. They create comforting songs for when girls get their hearts broken by boys, songs to support them when they feel like what they do is not enough, and so on. Thus, teenage girls feel attached to the songs because they believe that those songs speak their heart and mind. One Direction’s Don’t Forget Where You Belong is my supporting song. Due to the lyrics that always remind me that I’m not alone. So, what is your favorite boy band song?

By maintaining those three concepts, boy bands are able to make all teenage girls around the world go crazy. In addition, boy bands will always affect the world’s music culture and influence the lifestyle of teenage girls.
